Description
This is my personal adventure rig: a 2021 Ram 2500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6.4L Hemi V8, paired with a hard-wall Scout Kenai camper.
I’ve traveled and worked remotely in this setup from Portland through Vancouver Island, Calgary and Banff, then back through Montana, the Tetons and Colorado. It is comfortable for long road trips, capable on mountain and forest roads, and cozy when the weather turns.
The truck has about 50,000 miles, a spacious Crew Cab, mild lift, Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires and plenty of room for passengers, kids and gear. It is technically configured for up to six passengers, though four adults or a family is a much more comfortable road-trip setup.
The Kenai has a comfortable elevated bed with an extra sleeping pad, plus a dinette that converts into additional sleeping space. I recommend it for two adults plus one or two children.
The camper is set up for both off-grid travel and remote work. It has Starlink Roam solar I can turn on for a pro-rated amount, a Goal Zero Yeti 1500X power station, a large Dometic CFX dual-zone fridge/freezer, interior lighting and optional Starlink Roam satellite internet. I’ve personally worked remotely from it throughout Canada and the western U.S. Starlink works best with a clear view of the sky.
The kitchen includes a propane stove, optional induction cooktop if you plan to stay at campsite with electric hookup, cookware, utensils, dishes, basic spices, French press, electric kettle and coffee grinder. There are also camping chairs, a folding outdoor table, lanterns, headlamps and other camping essentials.
The camper has a 5-gallon LifeSaver filtered water system with a pump and spray wand, a sink, a stowaway cassette toilet and a simple indoor or outdoor rinse setup. A diesel heater keeps the camper warm in cold weather.
One of the best features is the large Kammok batwing-style awning that wraps around the side and rear of the camper, creating a covered outdoor living space that is especially useful in rain or strong sun.
Pets are welcome.
This setup is ideal for couples, small families, remote workers and longer road trips. It works especially well for the Oregon and California coasts, Washington, British Columbia, the Cascades, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.
This is my personal camper, not a stripped-down rental fleet vehicle, so it is stocked with the practical little things that make longer trips easier. If there is specific camping or kitchen gear you need, just ask. Happy to put all the things you'd need if you are flying in. There is a good chance I already have it.
