Frequently Asked Questions

About BaseCamper

What is BaseCamper?

BaseCamper is an overlanding-focused marketplace for buying, selling, and renting overland vehicles, trailers, truck campers, and gear. Think of us as the place that sits between a classifieds board and a full e-commerce store — purpose-built for the overland community.

What kind of vehicles and gear do you focus on?

Capable off-road rigs and overland-ready equipment: 4x4s like Jeeps, Tacomas, 4Runners, Land Cruisers, Broncos, and select Subarus; campervans and truck campers; compact off-road trailers; and the gear that outfits them. We intentionally skip UTVs, ATVs, full-size travel trailers, sedans, and commercial fleet vans so the marketplace stays focused on overlanding.

Where is BaseCamper based?

We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with listings and rentals across the country.

Does it cost anything to browse?

No. Browsing and searching BaseCamper is free for buyers and renters.

Buying on BaseCamper

How do I buy something I find on BaseCamper?

It depends on the listing. Some items can be purchased directly through our checkout with an Add to Cart button. Others link out to the original listing, and some private listings use a Make Offer or I'm Interested button that lets us connect you with the seller. The buttons on each listing tell you which path applies.

Why do some listings say "Make Offer" instead of "Buy Now"?

Many overland rigs and one-of-a-kind items are sold by private sellers rather than checked out like a standard product. For those, you express interest and we help connect you with the seller so you can work out the details directly. It signals a real conversation, not an instant transaction.

What happens after I express interest in a listing?

Your inquiry comes to the BaseCamper team. We help qualify the connection and put you in touch with the seller so the two of you can discuss price, condition, inspection, and next steps. To do that, we may share the contact details you provide (like your name and phone number) with the seller.

Are the items and sellers verified?

BaseCamper is a venue that connects buyers and sellers — for most listings we are not the seller and don't take possession of items. We curate and organize listings, but we can't guarantee the condition, history, or availability of every item. Always inspect an item and confirm details directly with the seller before sending money.

Some listings came from elsewhere on the web — what does that mean?

To give overlanders the widest selection, some listings are surfaced from other public sources. Those show where they came from and link you to the original. They're a starting point for your search, not a BaseCamper-managed sale.

Selling on BaseCamper

How do I sell my rig or gear?

Use the Sell Your Gear page to tell us what you're selling, add a few photos, and leave the best number to reach you. We'll follow up to help build and publish your listing.

What can I list?

Overland-relevant vehicles and equipment: capable 4x4s, campervans, truck campers, compact off-road trailers, rooftop tents, recovery gear, and similar. If it belongs on the trail, it probably belongs here.

How much does it cost to sell?

Listing your item is straightforward, and we'll be upfront about any fees before you incur them. We're focused first on connecting you with the right buyers in the overland community.

How will buyers contact me?

When a buyer is interested, the inquiry comes through BaseCamper first. We help qualify it and connect you with a genuinely interested buyer, so you spend less time fielding low-effort messages.

Rentals

How do rentals work on BaseCamper?

BaseCamper helps you discover overland rentals — rigs and trailers — by type and destination. When you find one you like, you book it through the host's booking page or partner platform. BaseCamper is the discovery layer; the booking itself happens with the host or platform.

Do I book and pay through BaseCamper?

No. Booking, payment, deposits, insurance, and the rental agreement are handled by the rental host or the third-party booking platform — not by BaseCamper. When you book, you're transacting with that host or platform and agreeing to their terms.

Can I rent out my own overland vehicle or trailer?

Yes — independent hosts are a growing part of BaseCamper. If you'd like to list your rig or trailer for rent, reach out through our Contact page and we'll help you get set up.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong with a rental?

Because your booking is with the host or booking platform, they handle the rental experience, changes, and issues directly. Start with them. If you can't reach a resolution, let us know and we'll help where we can.

Trust, Payments & Privacy

Is it safe to buy and sell here?

We curate listings and connect real people in the overland community, but as with any marketplace, use good judgment: inspect items in person when possible, confirm details with the other party, and avoid sending money before you're confident in the transaction.

How are payments handled?

Items purchased directly through BaseCamper's checkout are processed securely by Shopify and our payment providers. For private sales and rentals, payment happens directly between you and the seller or host — so follow safe payment practices and keep records.

How is my personal information used?

We use your information to operate the marketplace and connect you with sellers and hosts — which can mean sharing the contact details you provide so a transaction can move forward. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Do you use affiliate links?

Some rental and product links are affiliate or referral links, which means BaseCamper may earn a commission when you book or buy after following them — at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the marketplace running and free to browse.

How do I get help?
