2001 LEXUS LX 470 OVERLAND ADVENTURE RIG — $25,000
146,000 MILES • NO RUST • FULLY BUILT • ZERO KNOWN MECHANICAL ISSUES
IF THE LISTING IS UP, IT'S STILL AVAILABLE — PLEASE DON'T ASK.
If you're looking for one of the best-built, best-sorted LX 470 / 100 Series Land Cruiser overland rigs, this is it.
This is a 2001 Lexus LX 470, essentially a 100 Series Toyota Land Cruiser in Lexus badging and known as the Land Cruiser Cygnus in Japan.
NO RUST. Texas truck until 2022 and carefully maintained in Colorado since.
A tremendous amount of time, money, preventative maintenance, and attention has gone into this truck. I built it with long-distance reliability in mind and proactively replaced wear items rather than waiting for them to fail.
I would drive this truck to Alaska tomorrow without hesitation.
CURRENT MILEAGE
146,000 miles
OVERLAND / OFF-ROAD EQUIPMENT
33" Falken Wildpeak AT3 snow-rated all-terrain tires — less than 5,000 miles
17" Icon Rebound wheels, including matching spare
Wilco Offroad tire carrier
Prinsu roof rack
6' ARB-style awning
Ironman 4x4 awning room
Air Down Gear Up drawer system and sleeping platform — over $4,000 new
Ironman front winch bumper
Apex 12,000-lb winch with synthetic line
NatureNest rooftop tent with integrated wired 12V power
Optional cold-weather tent liner
FSR 12V heated mattress mat
Traction boards
Trail spare-parts box
3" self-inflating hybrid foam/air mattress that perfectly fits the interior sleeping platform
LED headlight upgrade using the original glass headlights rather than later plastic-style housings
CUSTOM AHC / SUSPENSION SETUP
The AHC system was refreshed and customized in 2025.
Approximately 1.5–2" everyday sensor lift
Approximately 3–4" high setting for off-road use
Non-AHC Land Cruiser springs with Ironman spacers
Non-AHC Land Cruiser torsion bars
New AHC shock/piston bushings
New Toyota front AHC pressure globes
System calibrated for ideal pressure ranges
This setup supports the additional weight of the overland equipment while retaining the benefits of the factory hydraulic suspension.
It is also designed as a failsafe setup. In the event of an AHC failure, the vehicle remains completely drivable, including off-road.
From inside the cabin, the suspension can still be adjusted from a comfortable ride to a firmer setting and raised to 3+ inches when additional clearance is needed.
Combined with the 33" tires, additional ground clearance, and Toyota's ATRAC system, this truck is extremely capable off-road.
ATRAC automatically brakes a free-spinning wheel and transfers usable torque to wheels with traction, providing excellent capability at both ends of the truck without needing aftermarket lockers.
INTERIOR / COMFORT UPGRADES
Replacement leather seat bottoms, front and rear
Replacement armrests
Replacement center-console cover
WeatherTech floor mats
Mountain Hatch rear tailgate cover — excellent clean work/cooking surface while camping
Sony head unit carefully matched to the factory Mark Levinson amplifier
Upgraded front and rear midrange speakers with properly matched impedance
Bose front speakers
Upgraded dual-voice-coil subwoofer wired to optimize factory amplifier output
Added sound-deadening material around the subwoofer
MAJOR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
A substantial amount of preventative maintenance was completed using Toyota/OEM or high-quality OEM-supplier components.
Toyota front control arms
Ball joints and bushings
New Toyota CV axle
All new Denso/OEM ignition coils
New NGK spark plugs
New AHC shock/piston bushings
New Toyota front AHC pressure globes
Toyota remanufactured alternator
New battery
Denso/OEM starter
Denso/OEM fuel pump
New Toyota charcoal canister
Front wheel bearings
New rear brake rotors and pads
Parking brake adjustment
Exhaust fan clutch replaced approximately 1,000 miles ago, along with the serpentine belt
Transmission and differential fluids were changed approximately 1,000 miles ago.
Timing belt, water pump, and radiator were also replaced using Toyota/OEM parts.
Oil has been changed every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic.
This truck has been maintained with the philosophy of replacing critical components before they fail, especially because it was built for remote travel and trail reliability.
CONDITION
Mechanically, this LX is exceptionally well sorted with zero known mechanical problems or faults.
The body and metal paint are in very good overall condition, especially considering the age.
Cosmetic items:
Small area of clear-coat deterioration beginning on the plastic lower passenger-side door rocker. My plan was to remove the lower pieces and have them professionally coated in matching white polyurea.
A few small rock chips. A freshly mixed batch of matching touch-up paint is included.
Rear bumper has a parking-lot scuff. I planned to eventually replace it with a metal swing-out rear bumper, so I never addressed the cosmetic damage.
Most importantly, this is a clean, non-rusty Texas 100 Series that has received thousands of dollars in preventative maintenance and well over $10,000 in overland equipment and accessories alone.
I treated this truck more like an airplane than an old SUV: maintain it proactively and replace important components before they become problems.
It has a recently passed Colorado emissions inspection and a clean title in hand.
PRICE: $25,000
Sold complete. I will NOT separate the gear.
The LX comes with the rooftop tent, Wilco Offroad tire carrier, awning and awning room, drawer/sleeping system, winch, traction boards, trail parts box, interior mattress, and the other accessories listed above.
This is not a stock LX with a roof tent thrown on top. It is a properly maintained, thoughtfully built, turn-key 100 Series overland adventure rig ready for long-distance travel.
