Description
Fran is a family van in the way that matters most: she has a JMG flip-up bench in the back with integrated 3-point belts, headrests, and proper child restraint anchor points, so car seats install the way they're meant to. Four belted seats, and when you don't need the bench it flips up in about thirty seconds and opens up the floor for extra space.
Underneath that she's a 2022 Ford Transit 350 AWD — all-wheel drive is uncommon in this class — professionally converted by 4Future Van Co. in San Clemente. We designed her around our own family of four.
Sleeping four works like this. The upper platform bed is 65 by 72 inches, wider than a queen — I'm 6'2" and sleep comfortably up there. Below, the fender box converts to a second bed at 68 inches across, which suits kids or adults up to about 5'8". If an adult would rather stretch out down there, sleeping lengthwise opens up close to eight feet making use of the cushioned storage boxes. Everyone gets a real Roam Rest mattress.
Travelling as two rather than four? We can set her up a second way instead: a rear dinette with a proper table to gather around, which converts to a bed for two at 60 by 68 inches. It's a smaller bed than the sleeps-4 setup, so you're trading sleeping room for a comfortable place to sit, eat and work during the day. Let us know which layout you'd like when you book and she'll be ready when you arrive.
The build is lightweight Lost Hiway components, insulated with 3M Thinsulate and sound deadening, so she stays quiet on the highway and holds her temperature overnight. There's an upgraded head unit with CarPlay and Android Auto and an upgraded speaker system front and rear, which sounds excellent on a long drive. Six added windows keep her bright, and every one of them, including the windshield, has an insulated blackout cover for privacy and for naps. Both cab seats swivel around to face the living space.
Power comes from a 5kWh EcoFlow battery with rooftop solar and a 400W alternator charger. It's silent, with no fumes and nothing to start up early in the morning. You can run the fridge, charge laptops and keep the lights on through a long weekend without a hookup.
Two things worth knowing before you book. Fran has the van's factory cab heat and air conditioning plus a Maxxair roof fan, but no separate house heater or A/C yet — she's wired for one and it's coming, and for now she's happiest on the coast, in the mountains through summer, and in the desert outside the hottest and coldest weeks. She also has no bathroom on board, so she's built for campgrounds with facilities. There's a Porta Potti stowed for the middle of the night.
Cooking is easy — there's a galley with a Dometic compressor fridge and freezer, a dual-burner stove for outside, a swing-arm table inside and a full kit of pans, knives and place settings for four. There's an electric kettle and a French press too, so coffee in the morning doesn't mean lighting the stove.
She also arrives with outdoor seating, bedding, blankets and quick-dry towels for everyone, plus a California State Parks day-use parking pass to use while she's yours. Bring food, clothes and your own toiletries and we've handled the rest.
