The Ultimate Turn-Key Family Expedition Vehicle & Multi-Use Workhorse

Most purpose-built overland expedition trucks cater strictly to couples. This custom build was engineered from the ground up to safely seat a family of seven, sleep five, and carry two weeks of self-sustained supplies and heavy adventure gear deep into the backcountry.

This rig is a proven global explorer. Our family lived in it full-time for nearly a year, covering 50,000 miles across Western North America. We traversed thousands of miles of rugged dirt roads, camped on the shores of the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk via the Dempster Highway, explored the Gulf of Mexico at South Padre Island, and visited 20 US National Parks.

Why We Chose the Isuzu NPR over other platforms (e.g. F450):

When planning this build, we heavily considered traditional platforms like the Ford F-450, but ultimately chose the Isuzu NPR for two primary reasons:

1- The Compact Cabover Footprint: An F-450 wastes 5 to 6 feet of overall vehicle length just on the front hood. The Isuzu's cabover layout maximizes every square inch. We were able to fit an expansive 11-foot flatbed onto a total bumper-to-bumper length of just 21 feet. It gives us the exact same trail and parking footprint as a standard F-250 crew cab, but with massive living space.

2- The Panoramic Views: The massive, giant glass windshield and panoramic side windows of the cabover design completely change the driving experience. While exploring the world, crawling down mountain passes, or navigating scenic byways, the visibility is completely unmatched compared to the cave-like interior and the long hood of a traditional truck.

A True Family Legacy Build: While the heavy fabrication of the truck's chassis and flatbed was completed by industry professionals, the composite camper habitat itself was designed and personally hand-built by me and my children. We poured our hearts into creating a rugged, efficient, and deeply functional off-grid home. This vehicle gave our family a monumental, life-shaping experience. Now that our big journey is complete, we are selling it because we want another family to have the exact same chance at a life-changing adventure that we did.

Beyond a world-class camper, it was designed with a "work all week, play all weekend" philosophy. Using the included Reico Titan electric camper jacks, the entire custom composite habitat can be unbolted and removed, transforming the truck into an ultra-functional, heavy-duty commercial pickup with a premium 11-foot aluminum flatbed.

CHASSIS & MECHANICAL SPECS

Vehicle: 2021 Isuzu NPR Crew Cab (7 seatbelts)

Mileage: 59,000 miles

Engine: GM 6.6L V8 (L8T) Gas Engine paired with a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission

4x4 Conversion: Custom 4x4 conversion completed in 2024 by RidgeRock Expedition Vehicles, featuring a custom shortened wheelbase

Dimensions: Overall length is just 21 feet. It shares the exact length and width footprint of an F-250 crew cab short bed, yet boasts an expansive 11-foot bed. Maneuverable on tight trails and able to park in normal parking spaces.

Wheels & Tires: RidgeRock super single wheels wrapped in 12”x35” BFGoodrich KO2 tires (chosen for maximum load capacity and universal availability; ~40% tread life remaining)

Drivetrain: Electronic locking front differential, auto-locking rear differential

Fuel Capacity & Range: Stock ~37-gallon fuel tank yielding ~9 mpg fully loaded with the habitat (~11 mpg unloaded), providing a ~350-mile cruising range.

Recent Maintenance: Fully serviced 1,000 miles ago, including a brand-new exhaust manifold and power steering pump.

Recovery: Custom RidgeRock front bumper with integrated receiver hitch and an Australian Sherpa Steed 17,000 lbs winch.

MODULAR FLATBED UTILITY

Build: Custom 7’ x 11’ heavy-duty torsion-free aluminum flatbed by Advanced Fabricators featuring rub rails and stake pockets on all four sides.

Ramps: Removable aluminum side rails that double as heavy-duty loading ramps.

Storage: 4x premium aluminum underbody storage boxes from Highway Products.

Hauling Capacity (Habitat Removed): The flatbed is large enough to haul 4 standard pallets, 5 dirt bikes, 2 ATVs, 2 snowmobiles, or a full-size side-by-side.

Toy Hauling: Equipped with accessory receiver tubes on the rear frame rails and a custom rack system capable of simultaneously hauling a motorcycle and up to 6 bicycles.

OPTIONAL TURN-KEY "TOY HAULER" PACKAGE

For the ultimate fly in and drive away adventure setup, I am willing to sell the complete, dialed-in toy hauling configuration currently featured on the rig as an add-on package (pricing negotiable for a combined sale):

The Motorcycle & Bike Racks: Custom platform for hauling a motorcycle or other gear, integrated into the accessory receiver tubes, and pairs with the Alta vertical bike rack. It is military-grade, e-bike compatible, features an anti-wobble design, and safely carries a massive load.

The Motorcycle: Honda CRF300L Rally. The perfect lightweight, street-legal dual-sport scouting machine. It features Dakar-inspired styling, a fuel-efficient liquid-cooled engine, a large fuel tank, and long-travel suspension. It serves as the ultimate "tender" craft when the truck is parked at camp.

HABITAT & LIVING SPACE (Custom Family Build)

Shell: 1.7” thermal fiberglass/foam composite panels from Boreas Composite Panels. Full aluminum base frame with zero internal framing to completely eliminate thermal wicking, cold spots, or interior condensation.

Doors & Windows: Premium Tern Overland dual-pane windows and dual Tern Overland Wildlands doors (driver and passenger sides) providing incredible cross-ventilation.

Entry: Heavy-duty Torklift GlowStep stairs.

Power System: Industrial-grade EcoFlow 5 kVA Power Kit (Gen 2) fed by 800 Watts of ShadowFlux anti-shading N-Type roof solar panels. This system runs almost indefinitely on solar alone in the summer, and goes up to 4 days in dead winter without any charge source.

Starlink: mini Starlink dish mounted on the roof, can be removed and repositioned in camp if needed.

Climate Control: Heat is supplied via a choice of a compact 120v electric heater or a standalone external Chinese diesel heater that we duct into both the main habitat and the rooftop tent through windows. Low-maintenance design with no air conditioning; 12v fans handle hot summer nights efficiently.

Water System: Massive 70-gallon freshwater tank and a 10-gallon greywater tank. Features two removable Aqor exterior hose bibs (one pressurized, one gravity-fed).

Kitchen & Appliances: 75L Dometic fridge/freezer (pre-wired for a second matching unit), induction cooktop, electric griddle, and hot water via an electric kettle.

Bathroom: Cuddy Light composting toilet by CompoCloset. Integrated indoor shower pan that drains directly to the exterior.

Sleeping Layout (Sleeps 5):

Main cabin features a full-size bed with a customized luxury Purple Mattress (sleeps 2).

The roof-integrated The Bush Company Black Series Max rooftop tent opens as a forward wedge, rear wedge, or full-height pop-up, featuring built-in 12v power and lighting (sleeps 2).

Under-bed conversion space accommodates storage or a single sleeping layout. (Our family of five utilized a combination of the cabin bed, rooftop tent, and a Haven Tent hammock).

Storage Capacity: Exceptionally deep storage layout designed to swallow packrafts, wetsuits, drysuits, canyoneering ropes, climbing gear, backpacking tents, and sleeping systems for 5 people alongside 2 weeks of food.

TRANSPARENT WEAKNESSES / CHARACTER NOTES

We built this rig to be a bulletproof, utilitarian tool, not a luxury land-yacht. In the spirit of complete transparency, buyers should note:

Ride Quality: Because you sit directly over the front axle in a cab-over design, the ride feels like a commercial truck and is not as plush as a “city truck.” It cruises happily at 65 mph, but the governor limits cruise control engagement above 70 mph.

Cab A/C: Factory air conditioning is focused on the front bench; it can get warm in the rear on hot summer days, so we added auxiliary fans for the back row.

Tech: The head unit is an Alpine touch screen w/ carplay, but the factory speakers are basic, and there is currently no backup camera installed.

Fuel Filler: The fuel filler hose angle has a poor slope angle, which slows down fueling. This can be resolved by relocating the fill port.

This vehicle is entirely turn-key and ready to take its next owners anywhere from the Baja Peninsula to the Arctic Circle the day the keys change hands.
