Description
2k obo. Clean and clear title in my name. I am the 3rd owner. Believe it's a Laredo (based on the title stating "Model: Cherokee L". 4.0L H.O. straight six, AW4 4 speed auto, 4x4.
I bought this vehicle last August off the second owner. The second owner put pretty much 0 miles on it; he just threw a couple parts at it in his driveway trying to get rid of the spark plug fouling issue it has (he replace TPS and CPS).
He was an older fellow who bought it off the firsts owner which are his fellow older neighbors. He stated his neighbors had let their daughter use the vehicle for a while. My theory is that basic maintenance was probably neglected during the period that the daughter drove it. The motors in these are known to typically go 300k as long as their maintained.
The jeep has a very clean interior. Has a winch bumper and Badlands 9k winch. Stock suspension. Clean underneath (looks like it's hardly seen a trail). Doors all have good clean opening action (no sag). Rear hatch struts are good. Had the front passenger fender replaced by original owner at some point, and is not paint-matched. 235/75r15 tires have excellent tread (date code 4118).
147k original miles.
I bought the Jeep for $1900 hoping that the misfiring issue would go away after some basic maintenance, or at worst that it maybe just needed a head.
Right after I bought it I threw new spark plugs in it, had a shop flush the cooling system and did an oil change. Recently I also threw a refurbished Optima Red Top in it as well (will throw it in with the deal if you're paying asking price, otherwise BYOB).
In the time I've had it I've only driven it from Washoe Valley where I bought it to Sparks where it sat for a bit, then to Carson City where it again sat for a bit, then to Silver Springs where it again just sat for a bit, back to Carson where it sat until the other day when I took it to Reno for the compression test, and then back to Carson. So I've put ~300 miles on it.
Now for the bad news, I finally got it into Dustin's Automotive up in Reno the other day, again hoping it only needed a new head at most, but their compression testing indicated it will need a new motor.
It still starts, runs drives and stops, but I wouldn't plan to get a whole lot more miles out of the motor before it gives up the ghost. It runs real warm; right below the red zone. Fuel gauge is staying stuck at 3/8 tank. There's a noise coming from the rear passenger drum brakes when applying the brakes. Driver's seat belt has a tear in it.
It's a little bit of a basket case, but it is also a pretty clean, low mileage, unmolested XJ with allot of potential, and a clean, clear title in my name. If I had a garage and a cherry-picker I'd keep it and do the motor swap at my own leisure, but I don't really have the space to keep it and work on it currently.
The Jeep is located in Carson City. I work graveyard out of town half or more of the week though, so just leave a message and I'll get back to you. I will also be off between August 8th-19th. HMU to schedule to meet and check it out. I have insurance and a temp movement permit on it.
