Description
I'm reluctantly selling my 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62. I've owned it since about 1998, when I got it from my father-in-law, who purchased it new. I've had it for almost 30 years, but I've finally reached the point where I've accumulated a considerably longer list of things I intend to fix than things I've actually fixed. Rather than continue that arrangement, I'm looking for someone who knows these trucks and would enjoy giving this one some attention. This is not a restored FJ62, and the pictures are intended to show both the good and the bad. It's a high-mileage, used-and-loved Land Cruiser with some life left in it and plenty of opportunities for its next ow

The NOT-SO-GOOD
Let's just get this out of the way. If you're looking for a pristine, low-mileage collector FJ62, this is not that truck.
It's definitely broken in. 346,000 miles indicated. It has run oversized tires for many years, so the actual mileage is probably closer to 400K. I'm not going to pretend the odometer is telling the whole story.
It leaks most fluids. Mostly this is an annoyance and I've found it easier to just add more fluids than to fix the problems.
It's been mostly sitting in the driveway for the last couple of years and the transmission can be finicky. This seems mostly to be cured with fluid topped off. It may need some attention. I'm not making any promises here.
The A/C doesn't work. I think it has a slow refrigerant leak, but someone smarter than me will have to figure that out.
The power windows don't currently work. I replaced the 30-amp breaker and briefly got the windows working, but they trip again. There is clearly another electrical issue somewhere. I have approximately zero electrical aptitude, so this is probably a much more interesting problem for someone who actually knows how to turn on a multimeter.
The driver's seat doesn't adjust properly. A mechanical component broke, so it doesn't move forward and backward. It's currently positioned in a place that works reasonably well for an average-sized adult, which is convenient if you happen to be an average-sized adult.
The interior is OK, but not great. There are some holes in the upholstery and general signs of nearly four decades of use. There is no third-row seat.
The body needs work. There is rust on several doors and around portions of the front and rear quarter/rocker areas. See the pictures. This isn't something I'm trying to hide or explain away.
Why I'm selling it
I've owned this truck for almost 30 years and used it extensively, including during my 27 years as a search-and-rescue volunteer. All four of my kids learned to drive in it. But I'm not restoring it. I've finally come to terms with that. I'd rather see it go to someone who knows what an FJ62 is, appreciates the fact that it has been a two-owner truck, and sees the potential in it than have it continue sitting around while I periodically announce that "this is the year I'm finally going to get around to fixing the Land Cruiser."
It's a high-mileage FJ62 with good tires, a desirable suspension setup, a useful roof rack, a lot of recent cooling-system work, and a very long history. It also has rust, mechanical issues, electrical gremlins and a few other reminders that it is, in fact, a 37-year-old vehicle with 346,000 miles on the clock.
I'm asking $8,500 OBO.
I'm happy to answer questions honestly and point out anything I know about. If you're looking for a garage queen, keep looking. If you're looking for an honest FJ62 that you can drive, enjoy, improve and occasionally swear at, this might be your truck.
