What’s nearby

Based in the gold country off highway 49 in Mokelumne Hill, Choncho is in the middle of the Sierra Nevada. A short scenic drive( 2 hours/ 100 miles) to the south will get you to Yosemite National Park or (2 hours/ 100 miles) to the east will lead you to South Lake Tahoe. Or you can link both destinations in one trip and cross over Tioga Pass. However, Tioga Pass is closed in winter normally (November through May). Depends on the snow on the pass.
Countless other places to visit: Calaveras Big Trees, Lake Alpine, Cherry Lake, Mono Lake, Twin Lakes, Mammoth, and many other off the beaten path destinations.
Example: Tuolumne River, Merced River, Bodie, and many others. Just ask!
And remember since Choncho is powered by Subaru, you won’t have any problems with keeping up with traffic on the mountain grades.
