VANessa lacks 4WD and 4x4 capabilities, so avoid uncertain dirt roads. Late returns, past the agreed date or after 6 pm, incur a $315 daily charge, and a $75 fee applies if the cassette toilet isn't emptied.
Monitor the utilities panel for gray water, propane, and solar levels, and empty them as needed. Run water gently to conserve it and prevent damage. Keep the interior clean by removing shoes before entry and using the dust brush under the sink if necessary.
VANessa needs a 9ft 3 clearance, so beware of low obstacles like tree branches, drive-thrus, and parking structures. Ensure nothing is above when opening the penthouse to protect the solar panels.
Outlets work only when connected to a main power source found in the under-bin hookups. Use the provided inverter in the overhead storage or USB ports for low-power devices like cellphones and laptops. The inverter cannot support high-power items like a blowdryer or blender.
The solar system can maintain a charge for 3-4 days without running the van, and phones can be charged via USB.
The cassette toilet has limited capacity: about five #1s and two #2s. Do not dispose of toilet paper or wipes in it; use provided doggy bags and dispose of them properly. Empty the cassette by digging a hole (shovel provided) or at a highway rest stop. Beware of faulty sensors and avoid overflowing the cassette.
When showering, make sure the curtain is in place to prevent water spillage.
Open or close the penthouse by keeping a door or window open, pulling red tabs inward from the top center, and securing all locks.
Turn off hot water and heater when not needed to conserve propane. If the temperature is below freezing, don't set the furnace above 75 degrees to prevent boiler damage.
