- ADDITIONAL
- 1. PETS WELCOME! However we do require all pet campers to sign up for the Interior Damage Protection option for the insurance. Accidents happen, and we can totally relate! This way we are both protected. Also, an additional $150 Extra-Messy Pet fee may be assessed, if you neglect to clean up after them.
- 2. NO FESTIVALS/NO BURNING MAN. We love festivals! But it's just too much dust to clean for the next campers and Playa dust severely damages camper systems (air filters, window and door seals, etc), no matter what you do to protect them.
- 3. NO SMOKING inside van or tent. Besides being really unsafe, with things like propane around, it really stinks the van up and ruins it for everyone after. So please, keep your smoking to the outdoors and in safe areas, and avoid loosing a big chunk of your security deposit.
- 4. TOILET/GREY TANK: Please be courteous and help us get VANNAWT ready for her next adventure. Empty the grey water tank, and empty and clean/recharge the cassette toilet tank at the proper facilities before you return. Dump facilities are usually found at any Recreation.gov campsite and private RV park. You can also find dump stations using the “RV Dumps” app. If you take 10 minutes as you're pulling out of the campground, it makes a world of difference for the cleanliness of us all, and avoids a $100 add-on fee at the end of your rental, thanks! :)
- 5. FUEL AND PROPANE: Please use only premium gas and return the van with a full tank of gas, just as it went out. If you can’t make the stop, no problem! You can always include our Gas Fill-up add-on in your contract, for an additional $225. Same goes for propane - if you can't return filled, we can take care of that for you, with our Propane Fill-up add-on, for $75.

* VANNAWT Rules of the Road: *
- We love your furry friends as much as you do! Our first trip around the country, we took our pup with us, there's nothing like it. Just be careful of the heat and know it is NEVER OK to leave them in the van unattended, even if you run the AC and especially in the heat. Dogs are most welcome, but cats are usually difficult, because they're hard to take with you. And, no one likes the smell of cat pee in their hotel room, right? Also, know we will need to clean the van for the next renters after your pet stays with us, so please be sensitive and careful not to let them make a mess. Our Extra Messy Pets fee is an extra $150, charged at the end, if extra cleaning is required. We also require any pet owners to take out the Interior Damage Protection option for the insurance. This protects us both :)
- As far as being off-road or at tail-gating grounds where you might get stuck, just know, despite Roadside Assistance being included with insurance, you will be responsible for towing and any damage caused by your choice of roads or towing companies. Really, just don't put you or VANNAWT in a place where there's even the possibility of this happening, please! Choose your route and plan wisely! Even though it's listed in your contract, you'll also be be responsible for any tickets or tolls, even if the charges come in after your security deposit has already been released.
- To this point, we recommend any of the apps that are great for giving road conditions, like "onX Offroad", "RoadTrippers", "Campendium", and of course "Recreation.gov". If you aren't members of "Harvest Hosts", they're also a great source for off-the-beaten path overnight options. Besides, who doesn't like a campsite with wine-tasting and a view of a vineyard?!
- Avoid our $100 Extra-Messy Cleaning Fee and bring the van back with the grey tank emptied, and all the garbage/sand/dirt/pet hair out. Please leave the van as clean as you found it.
- Please don't climb on the roof! Damage to the fiberglass and solar panel would make the rest of your trip and the loss of your security deposit a real drag.
- Please do not tow anything behind the van, even though there is a hitch, or mount anything back there either. The hitch is for our bike rack only.
- We send VANNAWT out with a full tank of gas. Please use Premium gas only and bring her back full to avoid a $225 refueling charge. Same goes for the propane, which has a refill fee of $75.
• Our awning is back a fully functional. We ask that you please follow all directions for use. Ask us for a full tutorial before attempting to open for the first time. Also, here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYnP4oD4t5g
- By all means, HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE! Be open to new experiences, use the hammock, sing along to the radio with the windows open, sing really loud! And, don't forget to share some of your unforgettable memories in our guest book, that we may all be inspired to follow in your footsteps.
Host rules
We want you to have an epic, safe adventure—and help keep VANNAWT in great shape for the next explorer!
1. Be Smart Where You Camp – Do your research. If you get stuck, cause damage, or need a tow, you’ll be responsible—even with roadside assistance. Apps like onX Offroad, RoadTrippers, Campendium, and Recreation.gov are super helpful!
2. Pets Welcome! – We adore furry co-pilots, but pets require the Interior Damage Protection insurance add-on. Never leave them alone in the van (especially in the heat). Clean up after them or risk a $150 Extra Messy Pet fee.
3. No Smoking – Inside the van or tent. It’s dangerous, leaves a lasting smell, and could cost you a chunk of your deposit.
4. No Festivals / No Burning Man – We love a good party, but Playa dust destroys van systems and is impossible to fully clean.
5. Toilet + Grey Water – Only use provided RV toilet paper. Empty both tanks at proper dump stations (try “RV Dumps” app). Skipping this step = $100 dump fee. Trust us, your nose will thank you.
6. Fresh Water – Easy to refill with the provided hose. Just follow the manual to set the valves correctly. Never run the tank dry—it can burn out the pump, which is costly to replace.
7. Fuel + Propane – Use premium gas only and return the van full. Too tight on time? We can refill for $225 (gas) or $75 (propane). Easy!
8. Lock Up – Always close and lock all doors and the pop-top when you leave the van—even for a short time. Theft or damage from an unlocked van isn’t covered.
9. No Roof-Climbing or Towing – The roof houses solar and fiberglass—please don’t climb. Hitch use is limited to our bike rack only.
10. Leave It Better – Clean up sand, trash, and pet hair. Bring the van back how you found it to avoid a $100 cleaning fee.
Last but definitely not least, roll with the windows down, sing loud, hammock hard, and share your adventures in the guest book so others can be inspired to follow after!
