Description
Meet Susan, our 2003 Ford E350 7.3L Diesel Camper Van. It’s a retired transport ambulance which we’ve converted into a camper van. Why name it Susan? Well, Susan is a character from one of our family favorite movies Monsters vs Aliens and she happens to be from Modesto, California the same city from where we bought it. So, we thought it would be fun to name our rig after her. It’s a cute and funny movie that we’ll include for you to enjoy as well.
Mostly everything inside this van was custom built or made. We would like to eventually paint it but we’re kinda liking the ambulance look. Let us know what you think. Although this is an older van, it was thoroughly gone through when we acquired it and is routinely maintained.
This torque packed diesel engine will get you over those hills no problem, however it’s a bit noisy in the cockpit or otherwise known as the drivers area. It has 34” all terrain tires and 2” lift kit that will make your transition from asphalt to dirt roads a breeze. Our rig is equipped with rear end limited slip but still only 2 wheel drive, so you may not want to venture too far from the road. Light exploration is encouraged however off roading in rough terrains, sand or water is prohibited. You will most likely get stuck and it will be costly to get you unstuck.
Taking daily adventures in this rig will do great for charging the house batteries. Being plugged into shore power will charge these batteries right up as well. If either of those options are not possible the solar panels should help charge the house batteries too. With standard use you should be able to go at minimum 4 days without charge. With optimum solar charging you should be able to fully recharge the batteries with standard battery usage.
Pantry! Yes, we built a pantry in our rig. You’ll have 3 pull out drawers plus above open cubbies to store all your food and extra drinks.
Storage? Under the dinette bench seats you’ll find storage for your luggage and gear. We recommend duffel bag style luggage, so you don’t have to worry about them fitting in that space. You can also access this space through the rear doors.
Privacy? We have custom sunshades for all the windows, plus curtains to separate the front cab from the cabin area.
Charging/Power Outlets? We have plenty of outlets to charge all your devices.
