<- VAN Description ->
I put a lot of effort into the build to make it as high of quality as possible. Appa is truly a one-of-a-kind van that turns a lot of heads! Read below for more details on Appa's amenities:
Kitchen - The kitchen is equipped with a 2-burner propane stove, a full bar sink, an extendable faucet, an 80L Dometic refrigerator, 120V wall outlets, and ample storage space above and below for all your groceries. Along with this, you'll find a full cookware set, dishes and utensils, an electric kettle, knives, and a generous spice rack. At the end of the counter is a drop leaf counter surface that can be used when more prep area is needed. When the sliding door is open, there is another stowable drop leaf counter surface that can pop up when you are camping or tailgating. The intent is to give you all the flexibility and basics you need to cook delicious food in gorgeous locations.
BED - The bed has a 5” thick gel memory foam cooling mattress and can sleep 2 people. When parked at a beach or overlook, you can open the back doors and have a comfy vantage point from which to take in the views or read a book. Within reach of the bed are the controls for the heater, fan, and lights. There are also 2 USB quick charge 3.0 outlets and 2 normal 120V plugs for charging your phone or other electronic device.
Storage - Appa has ample storage for both your personal belongings as well as your toys. With numerous drawers, shelves, and cubbies up front, you are guaranteed to have enough room to store personal effects for even the longest trips. In the back and under the bed, Appa has a durable and spacious garage. The bed height is tall enough to accommodate storing a mountain bike or two. The rubber-lined shelves on either side of the aisle are slip-resistant and can stash a lot of gear. The shelf on the right is long enough to store skis or surfboards up to 76” (193cm) long. The garage also has controllable LED lights to make sure you can see your swag when it's dark out or to set the vibe for an evening hangout.
Electrical - Appa is equipped with 200 Amp Hours of Lithium batteries and multiple charging options that enable off-grid boondocking. There are 320 Watts of solar on the roof and a Victron Mppt charge controller that consistently replenishes the batteries during the summer, spring, and fall months. For cloudy days, Appa also has a Victron DC-DC charge controller that charges the batteries while the vehicle is driving. As a final option, there is a shore power hookup that enables you to charge the batteries via any external 120-volt plug-in. This would mainly be used if you won't be driving much and it also happens to be cloudy.
Stealth - With minimal exterior-mounted equipment and blackout window covers, this van doesn't draw too much attention when you get settled in for the night. This means you can park almost anywhere and not have to worry about someone knocking on your door telling you that you can't park or sleep there. This gives you a lot more flexibility in trip planning and ensures you will always have a place to sleep.
Climate Control - This van was originally built to withstand harsh winter climates and has taken me on trips where outside temperatures reached as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. The van is fully insulated and has an externally vented and flued Propex heater, a Maxxair ceiling fan, Reflectix window covers, and a marine hatch. While the van doesn’t have an external AC unit, the aggressive insulation serves two purposes and does a good job of keeping the van cool in the summer.
Appa Omissions - Appa is a relatively simple build and as such, doesn't include some of the creature comforts some people are looking for. It is worth noting that Appa is not currently equipped with any of the following: toilet, shower, auxiliary AC unit, or Starlink/cell signal boosters. This has never been a show-stopper for my adventures with Appa and I am happy to advise you on how to navigate the absence of these amenities during your rental.
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any clarifying questions about Appa!
