We’ve taken it on long-distance trips from New York to Milwaukee, North Carolina and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and it has never left us stranded. It starts easily, idles smoothly, shifts beautifully, tracks straight on the highway and cruises comfortably at 70 mph.

The truck was sold new in California in 1989 and remained in the Los Angeles area until approximately 2010. It then spent time in Virginia/Maryland before I purchased it from a dealer in Arlington, Virginia in 2020. I owned it in New York until 2025, when we brought it back to Southern California.

The CARFAX history is clean, with no accidents or damage reported. It has a clean title ready for transfer and passed California smog in June 2026.

Mechanically Sorted + Extensively Documented

One of the strongest aspects of this FJ62 is its maintenance history. It comes with approximately 10 years of service records, including more than $24,000 in documented maintenance and mechanical work during my six-year ownership.

The truck retains its original 3F-E 4.0-liter fuel-injected inline-six, which has never been rebuilt. It starts immediately, idles smoothly, runs cool, does not burn oil and has no known fluid leaks.

Most recently, the automatic transmission received a complete $9,700 AAMCO rebuild at 190,364 miles, less than 1,300 miles ago. The rebuild included the torque converter, master overhaul kit, piston kit, governor assembly, valve body, ATF filter, pan gasket and fluid. The transfer case was serviced at the same time. I have the complete invoice, and the transmission shifts beautifully.

Other significant maintenance during my ownership includes:
Complete front and rear brake servicing, including front pads, rotors and calipers and, more recently, premium rear drums, hardware and master cylinder
Full exhaust system, including catalytic converter, muffler and tailpipe
Front and rear shocks
Steering service, including drag-link and joint rod ends
Fuel pump
Alternator, starter and battery
Multiple comprehensive tune-ups, including plugs, ignition components, filters, belts and hoses
Recent California emissions service, including both O2 sensors, plugs and fuel-system cleaning
Transfer-case service completed with the transmission rebuild
Oil changed approximately 400 miles ago

Receipts for all major work are included with the vehicle.

Four-wheel drive and the locking hubs work properly. The truck drives extremely well and has proven itself repeatedly on long-distance trips.

Engine

The FJ62 is powered by Toyota’s legendary 3F-E 4.0-liter inline-six, featuring electronic multi-point fuel injection and a cast-iron block and head. Factory output was approximately 155 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque.
This truck retains its original engine and has never required a rebuild.

Suspension, Wheels + Tires

The truck was lifted prior to my ownership. Front and rear shocks were replaced in 2024.
It rides well, the steering feels good and it tracks straight at highway speeds.

It is fitted with Falken Wildpeak A/T tires, installed at approximately 160,000 miles and still in good condition. The black wheels show some superficial surface corrosion.

Exceptionally Preserved Interior

One of my favorite aspects of the truck is how well the interior has survived.

It retains its original vinyl seating, original door panels and original headliner, all of which present extremely well for a 1989 truck. The dashboard is also in excellent condition, and the gauge cluster operates properly.

A/C blows cold and the heat works great. The front power windows, power mirrors, rear defroster, rear wiper, windshield wipers/washers, horn, lighting, 4WD and locking hubs all operate.

The rear power windows currently do not operate and need window motors. Power locks work but can be temperamental. The driver’s-side mirror is aftermarket. The stereo is aftermarket and works, although the speakers could use an upgrade.

There has been no smoking or known water intrusion during my ownership.

Exterior + Underside

The white exterior presents extremely well and gets attention everywhere it goes. The paint appears to have been refinished at some point in its life, although I don’t have documentation of when.
The bumpers, exterior trim and badging appear largely original, with a few age-appropriate dings and scuffs.

The truck has age-appropriate surface corrosion, which I’ve made an effort to show clearly in the photographs. I am not aware of any rust repairs during my ownership.

All doors, hood and rear tailgate operate properly, and the glass is in excellent condition with no significant chips or cracks.

Documentation + Original Equipment

This FJ62 comes with an unusually extensive documentation package:
Approximately 10 years of service records
Receipts documenting $24K+ in maintenance during my ownership
Complete AAMCO transmission rebuild invoice
Clean CARFAX showing no reported accidents or damage
1989 Toyota Land Cruiser owner’s manual
Toyota Owner’s Guide Supplement
Original tools and jack
Spare tire
Two keys

Why I’m Selling

This is a difficult one to sell because we’ve genuinely enjoyed owning it.

Over six years and roughly 30,000 miles, it has been a remarkably dependable classic. We’ve driven it on road trips, around New York City and now throughout Southern California. It has never left us stranded.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about driving an FJ62. No screens, complicated computers or unnecessary technology—just a beautifully engineered Toyota that’s simple to drive and feels like it was built to last.

We’re selling because we’re ready to take the next step in our classic-car journey, not because there’s anything we need to get away from.

$39,500

Located in Huntington Beach / Orange County, California.

Clean title in hand.
