Description
Turbocharged 1HZ–Powered 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ75. Japanese Fire Truck Conversion. 25,000 original miles. Open to reasonable offers.
The truck has a steel flat bed with removable side panels, a tan soft top, a roof rack, a two-inch suspension lift kit, and 16″ steel wheels. The stock 4.2-liter 1HZ diesel inline-six has been fitted with a Kinugawa turbocharger, ARP head studs, a PDI intercooler, a PDI airbox, 3" exhaust, and a Terrain Tamer radiator. The truck has A/C, power steering, and aftermarket stereo system (with wireless Carplay),
I purchased this truck in March 2023 from the gentlemen that started the conversion/build and used his solid start to build my ideal vehicle. For me, that vehicle is a truck that: a) is reliable, rugged, and simple; b) does not have all the bells, whistles, doo dabs, and computers of modern vehicles; c) has four doors and can comfortably fit 4 humans; d) is powerful enough to tow stuff and drive up mountains at a reasonable pace; and e) is a tough, solid TRUCK (not a luxury car).
With the engine upgrades, I wanted to wake the sleepy 1HZ up a little bit without stressing it. With just a little boost (~8 lbs), it can do the things I want it to do without hurting the famously reliable engine. The intercooler, airbox, 3” exhaust really help it breathe and keep EGTs down. Cooling system upgrades work well and keep the coolant temps down.
I wanted to make the truck bed functional and versatile. At the core of it is a steel flat bed. Tube steel hoops are bolted on and they SOLIDLY support a loaded roof rack. Removable drop gates are pinned between the hoops, and a waterproof soft top was custom made to keep cargo dry. All of it is easily removed in 30 mins or so to get back down to a flat bed when desired.
I've had my fun with this project and have driven it across the country a couple times now. It's time to move on to the next project.
