Vendor Spotlight: Rocky Talkie

When I first came across Rocky Talkie, I couldn’t even tell you where I found them—maybe an ad, maybe a search rabbit hole—but something made me linger. Maybe it was the price point, maybe the branding, but I paused and thought, “Wait… are these actually worth it?”

I don’t own a pair yet, but Rocky Talkie has stuck with me. It’s one of those rare brands that, from the outside looking in, gives off a real sense of purpose. They’re not just pushing gear—they’re solving a problem they ran into themselves: unreliable comms in the backcountry.

What stood out right away was their pledge—$2 from every radio goes to support volunteer search and rescue teams. That’s not just a clever marketing hook. That’s a company tying itself to the reality of what backcountry communication means—safety, peace of mind, and responsibility. That alone gives them some credibility in my book.

For overlanders, the real draw is their 5-watt GMRS radio. It’s powerful enough to matter—far more than the entry-level FRS stuff—and doesn’t require the full investment of HAM licensing. It hits that sweet spot: good range, simple interface, and a quality build. They even offer a RAM mount compatible cradle, hand mic, and a few other accessories that make it a smart fit for the trail as far as a handheld radio unit goes.

There are other options out there. I already have radios. I’ve used Baofengs. But if I were choosing today—with the goal of simplicity, trust, and function—I’d be strongly considering Rocky Talkie. It’s not the cheapest path, but it’s a focused one. And while I’m still in the research phase, they’ve earned a spot on my gear radar.

This isn’t a sponsored post, but I am an affiliate—and if I do eventually run with Rocky Talkie radios in my rig, it’ll be because I believe in what they’re building. Spotlighting them here isn’t about a sale. It’s about recognizing the effort and clarity they’re bringing to an often messy space.
